Molecular cloud complexes in detail : Interferometric observations of GMCs in M

چکیده

We have accumulated CO(1-0) and (2-1) data of several GMCs in M31 using the Plateau de Bure Interferometer. The sample covers a range of 5 to 18 kpc galactocentric distance and various physical conditions. The spatial resolution attains values down to 3 pc. All GMCs investigated have been resolved into several components, also seemingly quiescent clouds and not only the cases where already the survey positions show obvious multiple-peaked spectra. Such kinematically disjunct emission is however spatially coincident in the small volume of the interferometer beam in M31, which strongly favours local effects as the cause of the velocity splitting. This is well consistent with the observed absence of strong streaming motions in the survey data. The nature of the sometimes strong separation in velocity space needs further investigation. The complete data set (i.e. including the large-scale survey) yields a uniquely complete view of the molecular gas which allows to investigate the conditions for star formation in detail and helps to establish guide lines for the derivation of the properties of molecular gas.

Comparative Analysis of Molecular Clouds in M31, M33, and the Milky Way

We present BIMA observations of a 20 field in the northeastern spiral arm of M31. In this region we find six giant molecular clouds (GMCs) that have a mean diameter of 57 13 pc, a mean velocity width of 6:5 1:2 km s , and a mean molecular mass of 3:0 1:6 ð Þ ; 10 M . The peak brightness temperature of these clouds ranges from 1.6 to 4.2 K. We compare these clouds to clouds in M33 observed by Wi...

Giant Molecular Clouds in M 33 I – Bima All - Disk Survey

We present the first interferometric 12 CO (J = 1 → 0) map of the entire Hα disk of M33. The 13 ′′ diameter synthesized beam corresponds to a linear resolution of 50 pc, sufficient to distinguish individual giant molecular clouds (GMCs). From these data we generated a catalog of 148 GMCs with an expectation that no more than 15 of the sources are spurious. The catalog is complete down to GMC ma...

Near-Infrared Extinction and Molecular Cloud Structure

A little more than a decade has passed since the advent of large format infrared array cameras opened a new window on molecular cloud research. This powerful observational tool has enabled dust extinction and column density maps of molecular clouds to be constructed with unprecedented precision, depth and angular resolution. Near-infrared extinction studies can achieve column density dynamic ra...

A Review of the Three-dimensional Field Displacement Retrieval Methods Using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Observations (InSAR) With Emphasis on the Precision of Each of these Methods

Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology provides a useful tool for quantitatively measuring the deformation of the earth, influenced by natural factors (earthquake, subsidence, and landslide) and human factors (construction of structures, drilling, and the overexploitation of underground water aquifers). In this context, time-series analysis of radar images allows the monito...

Identification of molecular complexes in M 81

We report about high spatial resolution observations made with the IRAM Plateau de Bure interferometer of the 12CO(J = 1 → 0) emission from a 1.1 × 1.1 kpc plane-of-sky field on a spiral arm of Messier 81. With a beam of 5′′ ≈ 90 pc, we identify 6 giant molecular cloud complexes with virial masses of ≈ 106 M , including one associated with a giant HII region. The deduced N (H2)/ICO ratios are a...
